Goat rearing is an enterprise which has been practiced by a large section of population in rural areas. Goats can efficiently survive on available shrubs and trees in adverse harsh environment in low fertility lands where no other crop can be grown. In pastoral and agricultural subsistence societies in India, goats are kept as a source of additional income and as an insurance against disaster. Marketing of the Goats

The goat farming business is one that generates a lot of income annually. For this reason, we usually find lots of entrepreneurs venturing into this line of business. Also, the Government keeps encouraging people to go into commercial farming so as to increase the nation's chances of exporting more food. Nonetheless, the industry is still not saturated. But of course, there is competition between the various goat farming businesses. It is in the light of this that we have been able to carry out a feasibility study and come up with various ways in which we can seize the market. One of such ways is making sure we carry out our goat farming processes effectively using reliable means so as to enable to offer our products at competitive and reasonable market prices. Another way is that we will ensure we cultivate good customer-relationship and build strong business networks. We will make sure we provide special training programs for our employees to enable them learn our business' philosophy, which is "customer's satisfaction above all else". Another way we intend to seize the market is by making sure we combine goat rearing with crop cultivation and meat processing and goat. We have realized from our feasibility study that lots of goat farmers in India do not focus on crop cultivation and meat processing of goat. And lastly, we will make sure we treat our staffs right, providing them with employee's incentive to motivate them to keep giving their best to helping us build our goat farming business into the formidable livestock farming business we desire it to become.

The marketable products of goat farming include the fattened kids, manure, and culled animals. Marketing avenues for the above products are slaughter houses and individual meat consuming customers and agriculture farms. Therefore, availability of either slaughtering facilities or traders who will purchase live animals should be ensured to convert the fatteners into wholesome meat and meat products. Further, demand for manure from nearby agriculture farms must also be ensured.

One notable trend in the goat farming business is the fact that most goat farming business owners no longer focus solely on rearing of goat, but have started combining goat rearing with crop cultivation and/or meat processing of goat. This in essence helps them to maximize profits in the business. Basically, our target market encompasses everyone. Everyone makes use of the products that come from goat farming in one means or another. The following groups primarily make up our target market: 1. Individuals and householders, 2. Manufacturing companies

Demand Supply & Pricing Policy

Indians' love for goat meat has led to the commodity's price increasing at 20% per annum. The demand for goat meat is increasing faster than the growth in goat population. Experts in the field are of the opinion that if this trend continues, India will have to import goat meat from Australia or other countries to meet the demand. Large-scale, organized goat farming has not yet become a successful venture in the country. Pune-based Nimkar Agriculture Research Institute has used Boer goats from South

What is also pushing goat numbers is the rising demand for goat meat in India, both for domestic and international market. Consumption demand is more pronounced in urban areas that are growing at the rate of 2.5 per cent per year. While rural population has grown at 1.7 per cent a year between 1981 and 2018, urban population has grown at 3 per cent. India is the largest goat meat producer after China. The rate of goat meat production (18.6 per cent) in 1997-2007 was double the production rate (9.3 per cent) in the previous decade. Despite a steady increase in supply, goat meat prices are continuously rising. The Wholesale Price Index shows the prices of mutton and goat meat has increased by 75 per cent in the past five years. This is the highest among all the primary food items except pulses and potato. "The main reason for the price increase is the rising export of goat meat to West Asia," said Mohammad Aqil Qureshi, former president of the New Delhi Meat Traders Association. Sixty countries import goat meat from India. Big importers are Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Angola and Egypt. Nearly 80 per cent of the goat meat and mutton export is to West Asia. Although India's current export of goat and sheep meat is 6.4 per cent of the production, export is where demand is set to explode. Export of goat and sheep meat has, in fact, increased more than eight times in the past two years, while production has increased marginally (see graphs). "People in West Asia are shifting from Australian sheep to Indian goats because the meat of our goats is tastier and low on fat," said Qureshi.

This has turned goat into a much sought after economic instrument. "Both exporters and local traders buy from the same market. Since exporters have a better, purchasing power they have captured 60 per cent of the goat market in Delhi," said Qureshi. Exporters are buying goats at an even higher price going up to Rs 600 a kg, said Billal Qureshi who owns a meat shop in Delhi. The average sale age of goats is coming down. "We realized demand for the tender meat is rising,' said Rahul Chaturvedi of the Foundation for Ecological Security, an NGO studying the goat market chain in Rajasthan and Karnataka.
